Blog Tag and Time Change

This is actually backwards from what I titled this post.  Not uncommon for me.

So yesturday morning my husband's alarm did not go off, and it was no longer running 9 minutes fast.  I set mine fast also, but have a habit of not turning it on (good thing I did).  The reason it didn't go off was that it was set twelve hours off.  Our eighteen month old loves to play with the alarm, but usually sets it way off.  He asked several times if I had somehow done this as a joke, but I had not messed with his alarm.  After thinking a while it occured to me that Titus goes up every night and waits while we read and pray with the other kiddos.

Background info on Titus.  He is occasionally a bit OCD.  Currently at school they are learning to tell time on convensional clocks, and he has been able to read digital clocks for some time now.  He also has a super cool camo watch that Granny got him, which for the last few weeks he can not live without.  He also thinks clocks should match.

So the thought struck me that maybe he had set the clock right, but would not have known about the AM/PM.  This morning after breakfast Kirk sat down and asked him if he had messed with his alarm.  Titus responded with, "Yes, it was wrong.  My watch is right so I fixed it."

This went perfectly with our small group study this week.   Being wise means seaking and accepting wise counsel from others.  Sometimes those sources are unlikely people like a six year old who knew the clock was wrong.  Being brought up in a house were being on time is stressed his only thought was to help out and set us on the right time.

Someone tagged me in a blog tag, because she thought my answers would be interesting.  Although my life is crazy, personally I am dull.  However, with only the short story above I figured I would give it a try.  Yes, I did read all the questions first to see if I was willing to answer them.

1. Where you born? Lafayette, Indiana on the night of a Purdue, IU game.
2. Were you named after someone? I was named after Dr. Dobson's daughter Danae.  My mom changed the spelling since my dad's name is Dennis.  Thus came about the impossible to spell, and constantly mispernounced name.  Dennae.  Eileen was her middle name spelled with an I, but seeing how my parents were just as corny as I am all our names start with "D."  In case we died in an accident with only our initials showing she wanted them to be different, or something crazy like that.
3. If you have children, how many do you have? I have 2 biological children given to me by God.  I have 26 other kiddos who have come into our lives for a time due to various reasons, and have left in the same way.  Right now we have 7 children who are gifts from God living with us.
4. How many pets do I have? We have a spaztacular dog named Oreo who is our protector, and for that reason barks constantly.  Except at the bug lady (who gives treats), or if she is upstairs while Ezra is napping.  She barks louder and longer if I'm home alone.  My husband hates it, but I don't mind.
5. What was your worst injury? I ran into a frozen pipe in December when I was in elementary.  I had to get stiches in my eyebrow.  Other than that.  My worst injury was child birth. I am blessed.
6. Do I have a special talent? I love music, and although I am not good at reading notes and classical stuff.  I love to play worship songs.  Sometimes I can pass an hour or two before I know it playing through praise music, and yes, they hymnal.  I also like to make cakes, and sing even though I sound like a guy :(
7. What's your favorite thing to bake? Pies are fun and so are rolls.  Lately I have loved trying new carb free things. (Post to come later on that)
8. What's your favorite fastfood? Chick-fil-a, but since there are none close.  Taco bell is always nice.  When pregnant with Ezra I craved beef meximelts soooooo bad.
9. Would I bungee jump? Nope.  Not my thing.
10. What is the first thing you notice about people? I know it is crazy, but I do a pretty overall impression.  Espcially looking at how well they hold eye contact, overall mannerisms, and if they are telling the truth.
11. When was the last time I cried? The last hard cry was probably in May when three of our kids who were little guys we had for three years left.  I'm not a crier.  It isn't that I don't feel.  I feel lots of empathy, concern, compassion.  It just doesn't come out in tears.  This is probably good considering in my line of work there is something heart wrenching, stressful, or frustrating daily.
12. Any current worries? I have gotten better at this one.  I worry about getting things done (yet I'm writing a blog).  What others think.  Will God call us away from this ministry when we are like 57 and tired.  Lots of time spent in prayer for others who are at hard life situations.  Always my kids and how I deal with them.
13. Name three drinks you drink regularly. Water, hot tea, diet Dr. Pepper or Cherry Coke Zero.
14. What is your favorite book? I have several.  For parenting anything by Dr. Lehman or anything Love and Logic.  For fun anything Karen Kingsbury and currently Jane Austin.  Biblical/Mothering Susie Larson or Lysa TerKeurst.
15. Would you like to be a pirate? No I get motion sick on ships.
16. What are your favorite smells? Fresh baked bread,  musty old basements, fresh soil, and a freshly washed baby.
17. Why do you blog? I have no idea. Still struggling with this.  If it is something I should do.  How best to do it.  I struggle with feeling too prideful in my blogging.  I never want to give the impression that my life is somehow perfect, or I am super mom, or that I know it all.
18. What song do you want played at your funeral? I'll Fly Away, This World is Not My Home, Untitled Hymn, pretty much my whole service can be music.  I hope that if someone feels they must speak it is only to encourage those who have not made a decision of faith to run hard after Jesus.  Otherwise celebrate and sing those fun hymns about going to heaven.  I had a relative that supposedly was picking cherries singing I'll Fly Away, and then fell out of the tree and died.  To me that is a great way to go (as long as you had eaten a few cherries first ;).

19. What is your least favorite thing about yourself? I am critical.  Of others and and myself.  More so of myself, but I also have an issue fixing other problems in my head.  This is not good.  I am working on it.  Judge and ye shall be judged is my fear whenI stand before God.

20. What is your favorite hobby? Reading, playign piano, making cakes, greenhouse stuff, crafts.
21. What do you look for in a friend? Someone who is honest, fun, forgiving, understanding, shares some common interests, encouraging.  I have a great group of friends past and present.  I was so blessed to have a great group of friends in high school, college, and now as an adult.  Although some of those friendships are more distant at each stage of life they have been perfect.  Am so blessed right now to be raising my kids alongside wonderful women of faith.  We don't all do it the same, but that is what makes it fun.  The one thing that is the same is that we love Jesus, and want our kids to love Him too.
22. Name something you have done you never thought you would do. Spank my kids.  In college I was totally against it, but there are occasions where that is something that may be needed.  Also, served my kids cookies for breakfast. Not as an option, but as the only option.  Never really thought I would blog either.

23. What are your favorite things to do? Have time with my hubby, go on trips with our big family, girls nights, SLEEP!
24. Any pet peeves? The way my wonderful husband eats sometimes, questions that you know the answer to, and burping.

25. What's the last thing that made you laugh? I laughed this morning when Titus so plainly told his Dad that his clock was wrong.  I love that kid, and his desire to help, and his need for all clocks to match  his watch.

Have a great rest of the week.  It's down hill from here.

Are you giving up soemthing for lent?
